  2. I would say onething compared with other universities, TNAU is doing best. We they admit the student as per ur wish corruption will be at the most. But I support that the practical orientation is much need. The record writing, reports should be reduced. the students are copying from net and the professors are not reading anymore-waste of paper and time.
I am much afraid of next generation inside, most the professor with agri family is getting retired. Urban professors are dominating, there never practiced agri in life expect on papers and trials. The knowledege is also not sound now a days. I am sad about the students passing out from them.......

  3. The teaching learning process is always subjected to criticism. Any one can do that . But not the one who has the concern. All the systems from ancient Gurukula to the present e learning system have been subjected to criticisms and new systems continue to evolve . Gender issues, social issues in admission etc should not be undermined under indian conditions. The Universities in the East have their own context. Sitting at a Western University hitting the East that too alma mater is unpalatable. You are having better channels to communicate your ideas and concepts to TNAU as you are still part of the university . Let your criticism be part of your concern so that TNAU shall continue to evolve. The responsibility is with not only the teachers but with students also. Both make the University. You started your journey from a village but now live at Europe; How come you have forgotten that the journey performed was thru TNAU.

  4. Sitting at a western university hitting the east that too alma matter is unpalatable///

I have expected this comment. Even just for this expected comment, I have post-poned to write this article. I am not doing this willfully, but because of real concern over TNAU and its student's future. However, I will write to the top authorities of TNAU, TN Gov't and also to few known TNAU alumnis, soon regarding this issue.

I have been criticising the kind of education with students and professors, since 2002. Professors even confess, but whats the net result. Our democratic process of bringing reforms were very slow. But, one have to understand the students future as a matter of concern. Unless, bringing it to the view of the general public like in this article and provoke the thoughts of the people of concern (like the above anonymous), it is very difficult to spark the ignition out.

Forgive me, if the subject and the way of expression hurts you.

You started your journey from village but now live at europe; How come you forgotton that the journey performed was throu TNAU////

Oops...again. If I forgot, I couldn't have made this article. I can't deny my success on which TNAU also plays a major role.

Love and concern over my host institution can be expressed in many ways and this also a way.

  5. I really do appreciate Yuva for writing this article. What ANONYMOUS told here is also not completely wrong but he/she should understand "no one (really) want to under rate/critisize unless they have strong love on his own school/university or even a teacher". When you look at the WHOLE TNAU (11 colleges), you can see the DRAMA in each colleges. Its starts from admission, student evaluation- I personally experienced in Kalavai where the Prof's wants to give more marks to students to show that their campus is doing best in EDUCATION??? Communication of INFORMATIONS is questionable!!! VERY POOR/NO response to (few) farmers who comes to solve their probelms, the ADO, HO are no more exceptions. The list continues like that... even it does ends even after completion of the degree (getting certificates, official letters and so on...).
Well I dont deny the prime role of TNAU in my growth but I can surely say its just because of very few TEACHERS (one who really want to teach us) existing in TNAU. The people have lot of respect in our university its all bcos of its service done before (2003- I was not part of TNAU before this year).

Atleat this kind of articles will bring some awarness among poeple and students which will make them to think twice/thrice before taking a final decision. I beleive it will bring some spark with students who wants to bring some reforms in our society through TNAU.

ICAR chief wants farm graduates to be job creators

    Monday, Feb 21, 2005. Hyderabad.

THE Director-General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Dr Mangala Rai, emphasised the need to prepare agricultural graduates to start their own agri-business, preferably in the rural areas.

The agricultural graduates "must prove to be job creators and not job seekers," he said pointing out that a study done by Applied Manpower Research Institute indicated that 43 per cent of the agricultural graduates and 23 per cent of the postgraduates were unemployed after completion of their degree programme in 1999-2000.

The same study, he said, had revealed that by 2010, the cumulative excess supply over demand at current employment rates would be 34,000 for agricultural graduates and 6,000 for veterinary graduates as the existing annual demand for agricultural and veterinary graduates was about 7,000 and 1,550 respectively.

Addressing the 36th annual convocation of the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) here recently, Dr Rai said that unemployment among the youth in rural areas had also increased between 1993-94 and 1999-2000 from 9 per cent to 11.1 per cent among males and from 7.6 per cent to 10.6 per cent among females.

Casual wage labour in the rural areas increased from 29.7 per cent of rural employment in 1977-78 to 37.4 per cent in 1999-2000.

Given this scenario, Dr Rai felt that it was essential for the agricultural education system (AES) to innovate course curricula suiting to concerns and issues relevant to real life.(நல்லா சொன்னீங்க!)

    In essence, AES should "aim at producing professionals and academicians who are self-confident, self-reliant and self-competing individuals."

  9. When computers were introduced by Mr.Rajiv Gandhi, the entire work force opposed across the country as they feared computer would rob away the jobs. But on the contrary IT sector happen to absorb the bulk of the youth . When tractors were introduced at Tanjore the communists opposed vehemently.... now what happened ... without combined harvester no cultivation of paddy.... Chemical Vs Bt Cotton? which is more harmful? The chemical firms are behind all such noise against GMs. These activists are propelled and fueled by the chemical giants no doubt.

Let them fight the pollution out of textile industries, waste out of leather industries and put an end to explosion of population...let them stop their sons and daughter getting migrated to Developed countries....

    One logical question:

How to keep agriculture at eco nature level when every sector make headway with hightech products?

Are you prepared to get back to nomadic life which is tension free and absolutely natural?

Get rid off your mobile and give your ears to sounds of nature; Throw away your branded dress and get dressed with twigs to be intimate with nature; Avoid cars and planes and walk like cattle and have the full joy of life; Then shut your computer once for all and add real colours to your life And try to live for a day then you will understand.

Apply break to science in all sectors why to agriculture alone? Get back to village and be joyful , dive in rivers, run behind goat, relax at grandmas back , sing and dance at village festival.

I salute with reverence whenever I pass thru Arvind eye Hospital for the vision they have restored to me and equally iam saluting the Science behind the eye surgery.

  10. Attention above Anonymous (Commented on Saturday, June 06, 2009 5:31:00 AM )

I didn't find much relevance in your comments to the subject of this article. May be you have commented from different point of view. I will posts a separate article for you comments.

    However, for your logical questions,

How to keep agriculture at eco nature level when every sector make headway with hightech products?

Are you prepared to get back to nomadic life which is tension free and absolutely natural?

One man in our country had an eternal vision on this. But, we never heed to it. Now, we are facing the consequences. He said, “I believe that if India and through India the world is to achieve real freedom then sooner or later we shall have to go and live in the villages in huts, not in palaces.

Millions of people can never live in cities and palaces in comfort and peace”.

That person is none other then Mr. M.K. Gandhi.

  11. Mr. Anonymous,

Its sad that you dont know the difference b/w the machines and living beings..

Science can invent and advance on inorganic things.. at the same time, when it touches the living matter, the result will be unimaginable..

Genetically modifying a crop is akin to genetically modifying any living being, to suite our needs.. if it goes on uncontrolled, then the entire living population would be contaminated with mutated/modified genes, whose impact cannot be known in a short time..

I dont know how did you come across the conspiracy theory of chemical agents... do you know, that a GM crop requires more chemical than a natural crop?

And please go to the beaches of the scientifically advanced western nation.. they are so advanced that they dont want to even wear a decent dress there.. that is far worse than the nomadic life.. atleast in nomadic life, there would be some level of humane touch..

Its pity that people are so selfish, that they think everything in terms of their own selfish needs.. so if an Arvind eye hospital gave you vision, then all sciences are great.. that's the height of hypocrisy displayed by many urbanised people..

  13. A Quotes from Hindu Businessline about GENDER ISSUES in Agriculture, published on Dec 30, 2005(http://www.blonnet.com/2005/12/30/stories/2005123000281100.htm)...With reference to agricultural education and gender issues it states the following.........

    Women in agriculture

According to the 2001 Census, 28 per cent of all working women are farmers — even though not all have land titles — and 46 per cent are labourers, the remaining being in non-agricultural areas. In agricultural labour, 56 per cent are men and 44 per cent women. "In the previous Census it was 62 per cent men and 38 per cent women, which means that more women are becoming labourers as men either migrate or do something else. In Tamil Nadu, it is already 51 per cent women and 49 per cent men, with men migrating to other jobs," says Ms Mina Swaminathan, adding that farming too is getting more feminised thanks to men's migration, leaving women to take care of the land. On the gender curriculum, she says that "hundreds of letters" sent to vice-chancellors of agricultural universities, the ICAR, the Agriculture Ministry, etc., have had no impact. Recently, AFPRO (Action for Food Production), a Non-Governmental Organisation providing socio-technical support to village-level NGOs, asked for a course for 15 of its officers. And she is still waiting "for at least one agricultural university to introduce this course; we're willing to do a demo, train the teachers, etc, but so far there is absolutely no interest. And it is frustrating to see so many years of work go waste." Another concern is that though more girls are entering the agricultural stream of education, "after they finish, they don't want to go to the field; they want lab or teaching jobs." But this is more because of the lack of transport and accommodation facilities in the field and issues related to safety and security. "Also, when women with children prefer to return home during field trips, this is considered a privilege; people don't understand that women need to be given support services if they are to do a good job," she says. She adds that the recent murder of a woman in the ITES industry had raised such a hue and cry, "but in the rural areas the security of women is always an issue. Where are the transport or hostel facilities for women? The BPOs get so much publicity, but the women working there do not face any more a problem than faced for years by women who work as nurses or telephone operators on night shifts."

Again the MOney making DMK family rejected Madras Univ VC's request of providing free education for all Govt university students. The reason coated by the Govt is "they dont want to pressurise the Govt for allocating 15 crores for this purpose!!!
Unless a serious attention not given for the development or atleat survival of Govt schools and colleges, then it (already) will be completely ruled by private (Alcohol makers, Politicians).
