Cow Urine cures chronic diseases

Cow Urine cures chronic diseases

Cow's urine is one of the Panchgavya Amrit (Five Cow Nectar). "Panchgavya" is said to cure major diseases and is made up of five cow products, viz. milk, curd, ghee, urine and dung. It plays a major part in Hindu practices and is used in Yajur Veda for Ark as a medicine. Many people use Panchgavya in some rituals (Puja) and for medicinal purposes.

Uses

The use of cow urine has been believed for a long time in India. Gaw-mutra (cow's urine) has been described as a substance with innumerable therapeutic values in Sushruta Samhita (by Sushruta) and Ashtanga Sangraha (by Vagbhata (Ayurveda)).

Cow urine therapy is thought to be capable of curing several curable and allegedly incurable diseases and cow-based products have multi-purpose benefits.

India's leading Hindu cultural group has developed Gau Jal or Cow Water at its research centre in the Indian holy city of Haridwar on the River Ganges, and hopes it will be marketed as a 'healthy' alternative to Coke and Pepsi.

  1. New way to commercialize everything! Good job!
Now you people not even going to allow the cow pass its urine or dung freely......

Did those cows come to you and complain?

Should the cows tell you...... to understand? Are you addressing your grievances to a Cow? If so we can expect the opposite to happen!

Your dark ages mentality of Humans over everything is proved by your senseless comment!

  4. @sathya,

pls specify your point clearly.. what the cow urine has to do with dark ages and mentality.. First know the details and then comment..

  5. Sages and lunatics always criticize every material things. Leave him Senthil.

Look Sathya... This is a globalised world. In this world the unwritten law to conserve anything is to commercialize it. If you want to keep the knowledge of healing alive you have to keep them in usage. Otherwise the Indian cattle species (Bos indicus) will be kicked off. We have to commecialize these products to conserve "Gou maatha".

  6. Senthil.. its not commercialisation.. but its an attempt to economic self-sustainability of the cows.. The word commercialisation is a negative one, and these people use such ambigous english words for denigrating everything..

Let me tell you this, I respect the knowledge you have gained so far..... But at the same time this world is not for people who say YES to all the ideologies that you have. Also it amazes me how in-able you are to understand a comment in the context it was written. I my comment I have never talked about cow and urine. It is just a reply to your previous comment.
Let us assume I don't know anything about whats written in this blog, even then it is your bound responsibility to make me understand of what the argument is all about. Thats the way of the learned.
It is with such regret, I would like to say that all your knowledge is going waste in front of the little emotions that you develop when someone critiques about something that you believe is the best. The inability of people like you are blatantly shown up through reactions like this.
Sorry if it hurts but reality bites.

Sages look like lunatics (true) beacause they see the light at the end of the tunnel. When has this society accepted some one who says the truth!

Let me come to your point which is "Conservation"
Your statement that unwritten law to conserve anything is commercialization is utter foolishness. The underlying thought behind selling of urine and other products is a stupid act from some stupid fundamentalists. Also you state it is an alternative for Pepsi and Coke. In doing all this for someone's profit you learned idiots cover it under the name of CONSERVATION, medicinal values etc.

Next please change your notion on Bos indicus. This cattle has its origin in Indus valley. The wild cousin of it Bos gaurus is still found in India. Also there are 75 breeds in Bos indicus like ongole, Kangayem etc which are well documented. This cattle is also found in Africa apart from south asian countries. It is a well documented breed and is in animal husbandary research in many world renowned livestock study centres. So there is in no real need to conserve these cattle. Infact this is the sub species that is used to breed a lot of other cattle. These cattle were already kicked out of Indian houses long before! And kicking them out of Indian farming situation is not too far. (My kind request try to make some way that would make people to appreciate farming first) You talk about commercialization after seeing the ill effect of commercializtion in Agriculture.

Commercialization is by any means a wrong motive as far as this is concerned. It is again just an way to promote the emotion based opposition against coke and pepsi. It is better to spend our energy looking at how to conserve our water resources and prevent the Mad-Max from happening in the future. India has got no future without water. When it comes to feeding water to Cows or Man, the ultimate choice many would make is Man. So start concentrating on ways to conserve natural resources all others will follow on its own.

Also just on the lighter vein imagine if the cows were you. You were subject to the same treatment of milking, excreta collection, draught etc; i dont mean to say that we should not be using animals at all but there is a limit to everything.
Remember we all had cows in our backyards 30 years back but that is a gone by era now! It was a member of your family. Chicken used to roam freely in the back yards. But now see them in cages due to commercialization. It will be the same, first commercialization and then corporatization.

    Anyhow wish you good luck.

I will reproduce what you have written in your first comment..

/** Now you people not even going to allow the cow pass its urine or dung freely......
    You selfish humans....
    **/

You did not ask for any details or clarification.. infact, you have ridiculed and abused the author of this article..

Do you feel, what you have done is right?

Do you feel, we are sages NOT to get emotional on seeing these lines?

When you expect a fair reply, its imminent that you have to conduct yourself the same way..

I hope, you would understand this..

    **/

This is unwarranted and baseless provocation.. words like stupid act, stupid fundamentalists never show your in good light, nor would bring you any rational reply.. Do you feel, we cannot use such words to retaliate?

Fine.. i will ignore this and let me try explaining to you..

On those days, the villages were self-sufficient, the farmers were self-reliant and NOT dependant on money.. There were ample natural space and forests for the cows to have their survival secured..
My grandfather says, they would never sell milk.. they extract 1 or 1.5 litre just for their family use.. rest are left to the calf..

Later the government commercialised everything.. More importantly the villages were neglected, their self-reliance destroyed.. Everything is obtained by money..

And since milk is commercialed, there was mad craze for cows which produce more milk, and the exploitation started there.. Rampant inter-breeds were produced, which polluted the bio of the local breeds... This is what is called commercialisation.. ie, commercialisation leads to exploitation..

Today just because of this craze commericalisation, the native breeds are about to extinct and many are already extinct.. There is a need to preserve these native breeds, and for preserving these, there needs a goshala, and funding for maintaining those..

You know, that, today an acre of land costs atleast 10 lakh.. a goshala needs atleast 3 to 5 acres, for sheltering the cows, and also lands to grow food for it..

Even for land, it will cost atleast 30 to 50 lakhs.. We can seek sponsors to donate for the land as one time investment.. but the monthly expense of the cows itself come around atleast 20000, depending on the number of cows..

We could not find permanent sponsors today, as everything is based on money.. so there is a need to have an economic self-sustainable model, as we dont have the power to change this commericalised world, we have to live by it..

So, there was an attempt to produce ayurvedic medicines, as prescribed in our ancient texts based on cow products.. That doesnt mean, people are torturing these cows.. No one forces the cows to excrete .. rather, the cows roam freely within the shed, unlike in farms where it is permanently tied..

So please stop accusing the people of commercialistion, just because money is involved in it..

Documentation doesnt means these breeds are conserved.. Today, officially the government had stopped using kangeyam semen, and only issues HF semen..

Secondly, this artificial sterilisation out of single breed to all cattle variety is what making the native breed extinct.. The government functions for the interests of the corporates rather than interest of the farmers..

Its the concerned NGOs which had taken up the task of preserving these breeds..

/** (My kind request try to make some way that would make people to appreciate farming first)
    **/

What do you mean by appreciation?

/** Also just on the lighter vein imagine if the cows were you. You were subject to the same treatment of milking, excreta collection, draught etc; i dont mean to say that we should not be using animals at all but there is a limit to everything.

You are under a opinion, that cows are exploited.. Its wrong.. I request you to go to any of the goshalas and see for yourself..

The exploitaton of cows are done by cow farms, which is different from goshalas..

Hope, you would understand the difference here..

  12. @Sathya..

You may have understood wrongly that we were industrializing Nattu maadus produce these items. Not at all. Breeds like Punganoor Dwarf, Vechur and Kangeyam and more undocumented varieties Salem, Arcot, puliakulam, Kappiliyan and Thurinji thala maadus of T.N. were in the verge of extinction. They were as important as any species for their specific eco-system.

We found the sale of these Ayurvedic Gou products as one of the ways to conserve these breeds by the locals. If you have more ideas and plans to conserve these ultra local breeds you are welcome to suggest.

If you want these breeds to go extinct (like the notion of yours towards the caste to go extinct), you can continue to fire on everything.

There are people here using terms like self sustainability etc.,Yuva, you are a the right person and tell me if there is something called self-sustainability. Let me know how far we are from Sustainability? Is sustainability achievable in today's context? How many people here know what is sustainability? And explain to me what is self sustainability for cows? All this makes me laugh.....
I can understand your good notions. But all my concern is why are we not thinking in terms of uplifting the farming situation in India. If there is a means of income, naturally these cows will be given support. Imagine a country like India where there is a rainbow of economic classes. Think of people living on one meal a day. Some not even having that. Who are your target audiences for this Gow-products? Ultimately you are going to end up selling these products to middle income groups and higher income classes of the society. How many of these middle income groups and other higher classes except a few have interests on the issues related to farming and environment. Most of the prominent goshalas are run by religious institutions. Apart from few remarkable services what have these instituions done to the public apart from raising their bank balances.
Again here people would tell me that without money these instituions cannot thrive. My answer for them is where does this money come from. Either from excited people abroad to whom the religious things in India seem to be charming or from IT employed society who are driven towards these mordern age ashrams, where they are taught to think that life is only about success and failures (there are exceptions I do know that). Show me one person who donates money to these instutions who is struggling to meet his ends.

This can only happen if we are ready to strike a balance in economy with the IT driven market here. Ask how many of the IT people are willing to adopt a cow in their backyard. Yuva it is more of a lifestyle that needs to be practiced rather than giving the responsibility to someone else. (YOU TAKE A COW NOT PUT IT IN GOSHALA AND HAVE SOMEONE TAKE CARE OF IT.) (Sorry to screw up the IT people but that is what is happening today. I dont see them as those at fault I see them aas a victim of this system. There is a difference.) No one has ever bottled gow products. It was all a very nice household practice.

If the ultimate aim for conserving these cows is to help the agriculture it is a good one. Even then this practice of promoting goshalas is not the right one. This practice will only help in widening the already exsisting gap between the poor rich.

This kind of gestures that people try to put in kind of outsourcing people to take care of cows and give them the products for which they are ready to pay. This is what makes people on one side STUFFED and on the other side STARVED.

  14. @sathya,

What are your suggestions to protect these cows in today's context?

    ReplyDelete
  15. @ mr.Right Angle

Some of my suggesstions would be as follows

    1. Stop this attitude of trying to behave as if we humans are the protectors of the everything in this world. let us be humble in saying that we are just 200000 years old in this animal kingdom calendar.
    2. Stop excessive breeding of any animal. in this case cow be it Native breeds or HF.
    3. The present day agriculture doesnot realize the complete potential of having a Bull and Cow. So educate the people about the energy potential that cattle can do to their farms.
4.make people understand that slaughtering is not an economically and evironmentally viable option since most think that is the only option.
    5. A better system would be rearranging the components, like breed cattle not for milk and calves only. See it as a member provinding a team of oxen to work along with you, in your family farm. See milk and calves as a byproduct.
    6. If this change happens then there will not be excess milk and calves. Naturally you need not worry about acting as its protector.
7.Teach people the option of vegetarianism as a means for better environment(here too not as religious option, but scientifically).
8.On a greater policy decision create strong lobbyists to inform the government on its poor decisions like subsidizing meat industry. On the same note stop everything that is given free to a farmer. Only then the farmer knows what is the value of his produce.
    9. utilize the dung and urine as a energy producing alternative like gobar gas, why through thoughtful planning they can be used to produce community based electricity. Infact any organic waste can be used for this purpose.
    10. Once again I stress it is important for us to know how to create a livelihood for those who are ultimately involved with these animals. It is only those people who understand the value of cattle not the consumers of all these cow products. These consumers would one day end up seeing cow as a living industry and not as a member from whom we seek help.

Finally make this an attitude that Man cannot live without other animals or plants in this world. But animals and plants can do it without us! We are no one to protect cows, they know how to protect themselves. Infact throughout human history humans have never protected anything. All their advancements have happened at the cost of something. To be precise science has to teach the future genaration that Humans are a calssic example of PARASITES. Think if we have done anything to this mother earth except what a parasite does to us!

  16. Who give the copyright for whom? We the tamil people know and have the knowledge of water management crop cultivation, plugging, fine organic fertilizers and pesticides, but the western countries copied our knowledge and said that they have the rights for the things they copied. I don't agreed with the copyright and patent rights.
